“Over the last few years I’ve been creating goddesses that are part of natural elements. The students had seen some of these in my studio, and became very enthusiastic about the idea of making their own. We will call this the Forest Goddess class!
In this process students will begin with a special piece of wood, drift wood, forest bark, etc. They can bring their own or choose from a collection that will be provided. They will choose wood that “speaks” to them and it will be the foundation of their piece. We are all a part of nature, and to depict and celebrate this connection through art can allow us a richer understanding, connection and reverence with our deeper selves and the natural world.
In a quiet and thoughtful space, students will look deeply into their hearts to begin the design process. Even though this process can be very intuitive, it remains important to construct a basic plan,( although this plan is malleable as the elements often tell the maker how they want to be arranged).
Students will be using clay as well as other materials such as wood, sticks, roots, mosses, beads, wire, cloth, and found objects.
This will be a two part class. Please wear clothing you don’t mind getting art materials on and bring a sack lunch to the second class.
This will be a fun and meaningful class, and I hope to see you there!”
