The artful field journal: winter wonders
materials list
• Bare winter twigs found outdoors where you live. Choose both thick and thin twigs. Have several on hand. If you can, set yourself up so you can see bare branches outside a window.
• Any sketchbook or journal you have can work for this class. It is recommended to use a journal that opens flat, with pages thick enough to handle watercolors.
• No. 2 or HB pencil, or even softer, if you have one.
• Writing pen. Pigma Micron is recommended.
• Any watercolor brushes, a No. 6 or 8 round and a waterbrush is recommended. A “rigger,” “liner,” or “script” brush is helpful. A large inexpensive craft, house painting, child’s brush, or small sponge is also fun to have on hand.
• Any type of paint. Tube watercolors are recommended, but any type of watercolors, tempera, acrylics, colored inks, will work.
• Any type of bottled ink you have, in any color.
• Palette. This can be a plastic lettuce bin lid, a paper plate covered with saran wrap, a china plate, or a traditional paint palette, if you have one.
• Small squirt bottle, if you have one
• Paper towels or rags
• Container filled with painting water
• Optional: any type of glitter, Pearl-Ex sparkle powdered pigments, metallic ink or paint, or Finetec or Coliro Pearl Colors.
