Get started learning the local birds of prey by focusing on the ones easiest to see in the western Pacific Northwest. Really get to know the Red-tailed Hawk so you can confidently identify one or know when it's not a red-tail. We'll discuss body shape, flight silhouette, habitat, hunting style, field marks, and voice. In addition to the red-tail, we'll cover Bald Eagle, American Kestrel, Red-shouldered Hawk, Northern Harrier, Osprey, Turkey Vulture, Peregrine Falcon, and Cooper's and Sharp-shinned Hawks.
TUITION: $10 - $35 SLIDING SCALE (plus processing fees)

About the instructor:
Longtime birder and teacher Laura Whittemore loves to show beginners the tricks of the trade. She has taught classes for Audubon Society of Portland and previously worked for Backyard Bird Shop, where she helped bird-feeding enthusiasts ID those confusing little brown birds. Laura holds a BA in Biology from Lewis and Clark College and has traveled in the US, Australia, South Africa, and Antarctica in search of birds.
