Connect to local plants that are currently growing in our yards, gardens and trails through art. Practice looking, seeing and sketching several different common plants while heightening your awareness of your habitat. Investigate the local flora as the instructor guides you through several drawing exercises.
Learn about the visual characteristics of different plants from a close-up point of view. Examine natural shading and lighting as you capture the essence of nature. Dabble in color and hues of in the plants and environment by adding watercolor paint to your sketch.
Students will need:
A sketchbook or paper
Pencil
Watercolor paints, water, brushes and paper towel
TUITION: $10 - $20 SLIDING SCALE

About the instructor:
Sam Marroquin was selected as the 2019 Artist in Residence at TreeSong Nature Awareness Center. She has shown her artwork in many venues including Washington State University, Tri-Cities, Southern Oregon University, and Spokane Falls Community College. Her artwork is in the Public State Art Collection at Tacoma Community College, Tacoma, Washington. Marroquin holds a BA in art from The University of Washington, Seattle and an MA in art from Eastern Washington University, Cheney, WA. She lives and teaches art in Vancouver, Washington.
